Game 9 & End of Season Festivities
Note: COVID may impact our season at some point and we want to be prepared for that. As of today, we will be mask-less and interacting as we normally would (we will not prevent folks who want to wear a mask from wearing them). We will comply with any city/county/state restrictions as they come up. While we do not anticipate changes, any imposed restrictions could affect the schedule and possibly the way our season will run. Everyone participating this season will also need to have a COVID waiver signed by their parents/guardian for under 18 or with a conservatorship or this can be signed by the participant for 18+.
Players
It goes without saying that we are doing all of this for the kids. They get so much enjoyment out of coming each week to see their friends, their buddies, their coaches… and to see their family cheering them on!
There are a number of good reasons why your child should play SMYBB Shooting Stars Basketball, including having fun while being a part of a team in an inclusive, non-competitive environment. They’ll have a chance to meet and make new friends while playing a sport that gives them an extra boost of confidence. Oh, and did we mention they’ll get a really cool Shooting Stars t-shirt and basketball uniform?!

Volunteers / Buddies
We are looking for Adult/High School/Middle School volunteers to be coaches and buddies for our players. This is an incredibly rewarding experience and if you’re a student, you will earn credit toward your community service requirement by helping the kids. Buddies will be partnered with a special needs player and team for the season. Buddies will support the players by working with him/her on the basic basketball skills (passing, shooting, dribbling, etc) and guide the player through the practices/games.
You do not need have any basketball skills/knowledge, nor do you need prior experience working with special needs kids. Below you’ll find the ‘volunteer handout,’ and if you’re 18 or older, please also complete the ‘volunteer disclosure statement.’
Please note that there’s no cost for being a buddy, coach or volunteer. The reward, however, is priceless!
